INTRODUCTION
The College of Management (hereafter referred to as the COM) at the Chung Hua University (hereafter referred to as the CHU) is contented to adhere with AACSB standards for the Continuous Improvement Review (CIR) process and this report appropriately presents in depth information about the COM’s journey to the CIR process for Re-Accreditation.
The CHU was founded in 1990 by a group of influential entrepreneurs in the region of Hsinchu County. With the main objective to inspire and facilitate quality education, promote the advancement of local industries and to foster regional prosperity has been the tenet for university’s success. It was formerly known as Chung Hua Polytechnic Institute before it was upgraded to its current status in 1997. Today, the University has six colleges, namely, the college of Information and Electrical Engineering, the college of Management, the college of Architecture and Design, the college of Humanities and Social Sciences, the college of Tourism and the college of Innovative Industries. As of 2019, the total number of the students enrolled in the CHU is more than 5000 students and well supported by more than 220 teaching faculties across varies degree programs and colleges of CHU.
The COM was established in 1997 and it’s one of the largest colleges in the CHU. The COM offers four degree programs i.e. Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA), Master of Science (MS), Master of Business Administration (MBA), & Ph.D. For the BBA Degree program, there are six departments, including Department of Business Administration, Department of Finance, Department of Industrial Management, Department of Information Management, Department of International Business and Continues Education Program for Management. For the MS Degree program, there are three departments, including Department of Business Administration, Department of Industrial Management, and Department of Information Management. For the MBA Degree program, it has Department of Business Administration. And for the Ph.D. Degree program, the COM offers Ph.D. in Technology Management. A total of 8 bachelor’s degrees, 6 master’s degrees, & 1 doctoral degree are offered. There are around 60 participating faculty members and more than 1000 students in the COM.
With the ambition to be distinguishable in the region, the COM has been continuously striving forward in achieving its mission. The COM’s Distinguished Business Program emphasizes largely on four attributes:
1) Fostering Artificial Intelligence (AI) skill literacy. 2) Experiential Learning. 3) Creativity, Innovation, & Entrepreneurship. 4) Regional Economic Development. The COM has also established interdisciplinary expertise into its curriculum by offering college core courses and departmental courses with emphasis on Innovative Teaching, Experiential Learning, and Applied Research. Innovative Teaching is impeccably forged into COM’s strategic plan through number of faculties using Interactive Response System (IRS). Furthermore, Experiential Learning is strategized and measured by the no. of hours of student internship and Applied Research through the project income. In addition, the COM’s mission stimulates progressive skills by enriching and leveraging students with advanced technological knowledge consequentially acquiring professional certification of their competencies. Over the years, the COM has significantly advanced and contributed to the regional economic development. Some of its regional impact is highlighted: 1) Robust network of elite alumni. 2) Significant impact of the Regional Transportation Development & Research Center in the improvement of public safety in the region. 3) Establishment of the Finance Lecture. 4) Financial Literacy for Youth F.L.Y. Program. 5) Establishment of the Oracle School. 6) Strengthened Applied Research & Project through academic and industry cooperation. 7) Executed University Social Responsibility (USR)/ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for local care, industry-university links and sustainable environment. 8) COM is the only private university in the region to offer Ph.D. program. 9) The COM has significant number of students graduating each year from its degree programs i.e. more than 500 students.
